Numerous cities and municipalities apparently want to beat climate change. According to the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building (BBSR), 286 project outlines from 235 municipalities were received for the federal program for adapting urban areas to climate change. The amount of funding applied for is around 983 million euros. This means that the amount of funding applied for is around 5.5 times higher than the additional budget of 176 million euros made available by the Bundestag in May.<\/p>\n
Among other things, the federal programme aims to upgrade and revitalize parks and green spaces. One of the aims is to protect the climate by reducing CO2 emissions, as plants remove numerous emissions from the air. Local authorities were able to submit project outlines to the BBSR until mid-October. According to the BBSR, most project outlines were received from North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg.<\/p>\n
The Budget Committee of the German Bundestag will decide which projects can be funded at the beginning of 2023. With the current 176 million euros approved by the Budget Committee in May, the budget for climate adaptation in urban areas has increased to a total of 467 million euros since the federal program was launched in 2020. Selected municipalities that receive the funding will be invited to submit an application for funding next year.<\/p>\n
