According to the Association of Private Builders (VPB), owners should promote biodiversity in home gardens and avoid stone deserts. The VPB also provides some tips on how this can be achieved. For example, owners should opt for insect-friendly hedges with plants such as red dogwood, field maple or hornbeam instead of cherry laurel and thuja hedges. This is because the latter are \"almost as interesting to nature as a plastic palm tree\".<\/p>\n
Owners should also avoid monocultures such as green lawns. Flower meadows with many different species are better. Out of love for insects, wild herbs should also be planted in the garden and unnecessary lighting should be avoided.<\/p>\n
The VPB also points out that insects seek shelter under leaves and that piles of leaves should therefore be left lying around. If you don't know how to garden or don't want to do it yourself, you can also hire landscapers or landscape architects. Under no circumstances should owners create a stone desert with gravel or crushed stone, according to VPB, as these could even have a negative impact on the local microclimate.<\/p>\n
