62% of consumers fear that the rise in energy prices will place a heavy burden on them. This is the result of a survey conducted by Kantar on behalf of the Federation of German Consumer Organizations (vzbv). Furthermore, according to the survey, 71% of consumers do not want electricity or gas to be cut off to insolvent customers on low incomes by the end of April 2022. Around 1,000 interviews were conducted during the telephone survey.<\/p>\n
The consumer association comes to the following conclusion: \"This is a clear mandate for the federal government to finally take action. Immediate measures such as the suspension of electricity and gas cuts are urgently needed to help low-income households in this crisis,\" says Thomas Engelke, Team Leader Energy and Construction at vzbv.<\/p>\n
According to a vzbv study, the increased energy prices for electricity mean the following: An electricity consumption of 3,500 kWh would lead to annual additional costs of up to 1,654 euros compared to existing customers. According to the vzbv, gas customers will also pay more. With a gas consumption of 20,000 kWh, annual additional costs of up to 3,782 euros can be expected. The figures come from price data sheets from the basic suppliers of the 14 most populous cities in Germany with over 500,000 inhabitants and vzbv.de's own calculations.<\/p>\n
