Paying high rents and repaying loans is a burden for more and more Germans. As a result, 12 percent of 12,000 respondents are planning to move for financial reasons. These are the findings of a joint analysis by the ifo Institute and Immowelt. The respondents could theoretically save costs, for example, by moving from the usually expensive city to the often cheaper surrounding area.<\/p>\n
However, city dwellers are more willing to move than rural dwellers. The ifo Institute and Immowelt attribute this to the fact that rental and purchase prices there have risen more sharply than rental and purchase prices for properties in rural regions over the past ten years.<\/p>\n
However, the analysis also shows that not quite as many city dwellers now want to move to the countryside. While 13% of those surveyed in May 2021 still wanted to move out of the city within a year, only 10% of respondents did so in fall 2022. Although those wanting to move want to save money, they are looking for larger living space. The reason for this is moving in with their partner or the birth of a child.<\/p>\n
