Wind energy: turbines from the 3D printer

Quarter-axis wind turbines produced using a 3D printer are set to serve as a sustainable source of energy for schools in the future. The Constructor University in Bremen-Nord is currently working on a corresponding research project together with the district of Friesland.

The quarter-axis wind turbines are produced on an industrial Delta 3D printer at the university. They will then be installed in school buildings in the district of Friesland. The university's research group, led by Prof. Dr. Yilmaz Uygun, is testing the wind turbines in a practical pilot project. The aim is to gather important experience and data.

According to the researchers, the energy crisis is making it more difficult for schools to cover their energy consumption with renewable energies. The project aims to make public buildings self-sufficient in terms of energy and should be able to contribute to the energy transition once it has been successfully tested.
